SOUTH ELGIN -- The public hearing for the village's proposed downtown tax increment financing district will take place this evening, and the head count is expected to be low compared to the raucous informational meeting held in March. The public hearing at Fox Meadow Elementary School begins at 7 p.m., with a presentation about the TIF plan and time for questions and comments from residents.

In the works for nearly three years, South Elgin's downtown TIF is meant to attract private investment to the area over 23 years on a pay-as-you-go basis, meaning the village would not sell bonds for any public projects there.
