While visiting one of Plainfield's newest schools, parent Ami Smith was shocked to look down and see large black stains on the carpeting where children often sit for storytime or other classroom activities.
"It was unbelievable," said Smith, who toured several Plainfield School District buildings this past spring while investigating reports of mold contamination.
"There were big black circles a foot in diameter," she recalled.
"I would never let my kids sit on the floor there."
The stains and discovery of mold in five Plainfield schools have led Smith and a number of other parents to question the need for carpeting in classrooms.
Some have even asked that the carpeting be ripped out and ...
