Article: Microsoft's Xbox Live service really will go live Friday

On Friday, Microsoft will officially launch the Xbox Live online service. Xbox Live, which has been beta testing for the past few months, will allow video gamers to go online with their Xbox consoles and play against other Xbox gamers across the country. A similar product, the PS2 Network Adapter, was released for the Sony PlayStation 2 at the end of September.

In terms of cost, both products are roughly equivalent. The Xbox Live starter kit will set you back $50, while the PS2 Network Adapter will run you $40. Both products will also allow you to get your game on online, but the similarity stops there as the online experience offered by the two products is completely different.
