Article: Expect good things from veteran Nowak

Here's a hearty congratulations to Marty Nowak, who has been promoted as Will County's new undersheriff. I knew him when he was known as Mr. Borz. Under that alias, he was a mob boss from Arizona. But at the time, the sheriff's office was operating an undercover operation called "Achilles Heel." This was a police sting in which Nowak was posing as the boss of a chop-shop ring with his partner, Detective Pat Berry, acting as his bodyguard.

Over a series of weeks, Nowak and his "gang" bought 26 stolen late-model luxury cars from thieves. Nowak and Berry then composed the sheriff's organized crime unit, which was called the O.C. unit.

O.C. also stood for "the odd couple."
