Article: New regulations change Fox River smallmouth bass fishing

Beginning April 1, the two Special Management Zones for Fox River smallmouth bass from the South Elgin Dam to the Montgomery Dam will be a thing of the past. Under new regulations published in the recently released 2003 Illinois Fishing Information Guide, the Special Management Zones have been thrown out and replaced with new regulations affecting the Fox River from below the McHenry Dam to its confluence with the Illinois River.

Under the new regulation, effective April 1, all smallmouth bass caught from the Fox River must be immediately released between April 1 and June 15. Beginning June 16, anglers will be allowed a three bass daily creel limit of smallmouth bass from the Fox River ...
