Article: Will the former Frank Thomas please step up

On May 27, No. 35 turns 35. We are, of course, talking about former White Sox slugger Frank Thomas. The key word here is former. Except for a good final five or six weeks of the 2002 season, Frank played like a major leaguer on a downward spiral. A former two-time American League MVP, Thomas hovered around the .230-250 mark for a majority of last summer. His strikeouts were up and lazy flyballs to right field off his once booming bat were the norm rather than the exception.

But with the Sox out of contention and the proverbial pressure off him, Thomas caught fire about the final two months.

And when all was said and done for 2002, Thomas' statistics looked better than he actually hit.
