CHAMPAIGN -- It was a quiet afternoon that only the police department could appreciate. After tying the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter, the Illinois football team was little more than a speed bump for the third straight time in Big Ten Conference play. No. 21 Michigan State rolled past Illinois 49-14 before 47,509 fans at Memorial Stadium Saturday. After a decent start, the Illini showed little life as Michigan State scored 42 straight points.
