HAMPSHIRE -- Area residents opposed to Crown Community Development's two proposed residential projects believe they may have found a silver bullet capable of stopping the Aurora-based developer dead in its tracks.
Retired land surveyor Bob Murry and others are circulating petitions in an effort to put the question of whether to annex Crown's 1,838- home Prairie Ridge and 811-home Crown East developments to a public vote. They cite a section of state law that appears to indicate that a petition signed by a relatively small number of people could force the question out of the village board's hands and onto a referendum.
But legal experts doubt that the law is the antidote to what Crown's foes ...
