Growing up in Beverly Shores, Jacqueline Widmar Stewart daily felt Lake Michigan's soft sand on her feet and feasted her eyes on long sunsets.
For her family, the lake was a treasure not to be taken for granted.
Her mother, Jewel, had always been enamored of it.
"Whenever we'd go someplace, she would say, 'This is wonderful, but it's not Lake Michigan,' " Stewart recalled.
