The U.S. government will honor an East Chicago native by renaming the city's U.S. Post Office Harbor branch after the soldier.
But you wouldn't know it from the way things are right now.
As of yet, there are no celebration plans by the East Chicagoans who lobbied for years to get the government to OK the name-change in honor of Marine Lance Cpl. Harold Gomez -- the first East Chicagoan to die in the line of duty in the Vietnam War.
And so far, there are no plans by the local U.S. postal officials for a ceremony to mark the unveiling of the sign or plaque listing the post office's new name.
