The league's name is virtually the same as the one it had for years, but East Side Baseball has been going a different direction in the new millennium. Janice Jackson, president of East Side Baseball, which represents Gary's Ironwood Community, said the league has been in existence for years, originally known as the East Side Little League.

"Last year, we joined forces with the Babe Ruth Organization so that we can have the opportunity to play in tournaments and all-star games within the Northwest Indiana playing district," she said.
