Narcolepsy, also known as sleeping sickness, is a chronic sleep disorder with no known cause. Its primary characteristic is the excessive, uncontrollable urge to sleep during the day, despite adequate nighttime sleep. In severe cases, a person with narcolepsy becomes drowsy or falls asleep at inappropriate times and places, and these attacks may be repeated at numerous junctures throughout the day.
