Teaching stress-management strategies to heart patients not only helps prevent repeat heart attacks, it also saves money, researchers have found.
And the benefits of stress management as follow-up care appear to exceed either exercise programs or usual heart care, according to a study published Tuesday in the American Journal of Cardiology.
In the study, 94 male patients with established coronary artery disease were assigned to one of three treatment groups. One received 1.5 hours per week of stress-management training for 16 weeks.
