The Gulf War created a sudden appetite among consumers for bad-as-you- please Humvees, the rock-solid vehicles favored by the U.S. military.
Livermore, Calif.-based Memtech SSD Corp., a maker of virtually indestructible computer hard drives, is now hoping a similar fad will take hold for the military's battle-tested, all-terrain laptop PCs, each containing a Memtech drive.
Air travelers already know how rough screeners can be on laptops, not to mention the assorted bumps and bruises that can result from daily wear.
Armored PCs could very well be the next big thing.
