A plant menace that's spreading through the Midwest is causing new grief for allergy sufferers in Northwest Indiana this hay fever season.
Authorities in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky report that giant ragweed, growing up to 18 feet high, has appeared in many new areas, growing beside its familiar, smaller cousin.
"It's quite abundant in the Coffee Creek area, and there is a lot of it along I-94," said Dave Hamilla of Chesterton, an educator and plant consultant.
