Article: Nobel Committee was correct to give Peace Prize to Carter

The Nobel Committee made a wise decision in awarding the Peace Prize to former President Jimmy Carter. But it made a mistake in attempting to compare Carter and President Bush.

Carter's peace efforts started with the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt in 1978.

Ironically, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin -- but not Carter -- shared the Peace Prize for that effort. Carter was nominated too late to share in the prize.

Since leaving office -- after losing to Ronald Reagan in 1980 -- Carter has traveled the world in quest of peace and the promotion of human rights.
