Article: Groups deliver Thanksgiving meals, food baskets

Many area residents enjoyed a good Thanksgiving meal, thanks to the generosity of local people and the hard work of food-pantry volunteers. More than 300 Ross Township residents received holiday food baskets through the township government, with the help of many groups.

Georgia Nichols, the township case worker who organizes and administers the program, said help came from the Merrillville Jaycees, Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Greek pantry at Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

"We had many private donations," she said. "Oak Investments was a huge help. They donated 14 turkeys plus canned goods."
