High school graduation rates will soon reflect what many say is a truer picture of the number of students who drop out of school.
A bill changing the way the rates are figured moved through the General Assembly without a nay vote and is on Gov. Frank O'Bannon's desk awaiting his signature.
House Bill 1120 enjoyed support from teacher unions, school board and superintendents' groups and higher and lower education state officials.
O'Bannon is expected to sign the bill into law. Schools will begin using it after July 1.
It was triggered largely by the business community, which felt the state's graduation rate is misleading.
