White Sox wannabe center fielder Aaron Rowand remembers his first day of spring training in 1999. Walking out of the bathroom in the locker room, two would-be teammates throwing punches blocked his path.

Smiling at the memory, he said wryly, "I thought, 'so this is what big league baseball is all about.' "

Nobody's thrown any punches at Rowand, but his three years with the Sox have been rocky.

His career stats add up to: 29 doubles and 17 homers in 582 at-bats, .273 average, 73 RBI.
