Unlike in previous years, the DuPage County Health Department does not expect delays in its vaccine this flu season, which typically runs from November until April and peaks in January.
"The health department anticipates enough vaccine for 9,000 flu shots," public information specialist David Hass said.
He said earlier budget cuts, which forced the department to eliminate its gerontology program, won't have a direct impact on its administering flu inoculations.
Leland Lewis, the department's executive director, said the flu vaccine does not always protect a person from getting the illness. But the vaccine is 70 percent to 90 percent effective in preventing flu among healthy adults ...
