Article: DuPage visitors bureau says visitors, funds are down

WHEATON -- Following a nationwide trend, DuPage County tourism is declining. Skip Strittmatter, executive director of the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau, told the county board Finance Committee on Tuesday that the bureau is losing money as fewer people are visiting DuPage. Events that draw visitors -- including conventions, festivals and youth sports tournaments -- aren't getting as many people into DuPage County's thousands of hotel rooms as they were before.

"The good news is that we still have larger numbers of visitors than our neighbors to the north and south, but the bad news is that gap is closing," Strittmatter said.
