Article: Village moves toward lake water

No one in the audience of Monday's Village Board meeting offered any comments on the village's plan to acquire Lake Michigan water. The board had scheduled a public discussion on a contract to purchase lake water, which officials hope can begin flowing into town by next spring. Only village Trustee Kathy O'Connell offered a statement about the plan, saying she believes the village would be able to solve its water problems without pumping in lake water.

"Call me diehard, but I still am not convinced that we couldn't treat our own water, practice conservation and remain self-sufficient," O'Connell said.
