Article: Village Council turns down Winnetka Ave. condo plan

Winnetka trustees Tuesday unanimously axed plans to convert the Winnetka Avenue building housing White's Drug Store into condominiums.

Trustees rejected a request from a developer, Conversion Marketing and Management, Inc., to grant a zoning change needed for the project. They also criticized the height and density of the design, which called for a four-story addition to the building.

"I feel strongly it would impact negatively on neighboring property values," Trustee William Meuer said.

The board's vote pleased neighboring homeowners and other opponents of the project.

"I think the fact the vote was unanimously is an immensely important message," resident George Noyes said.
