During 1998, voters resolved the debate over the domestic partnership registry, the village began its $37.5 million infrastructure improvement plan and the village became embroiled in a battle with Oak Park-River Forest High School over property on Lake Street. Here is a month-by-month recap of the year's events:
January
The Oak Park Area Gay and Lesbian Association says a citizens' petition that challenges the Oak Park domestic registry for same-sex couples contains mostly unregistered voters.
However, on Jan. 16 the Oak Park Electoral Board determines OPALGA is not a legal voter and therefore cannot object to the petition.
