Article: ZIP code bid moves ahead

Lincolnwood's fight for its own ZIP code took a major step forward in 1998.

That first step began earlier in the year when Village Trustees unanimously approved a new U.S. Post Office annex for Lincolnwood. At that time, Village Trustees once again made a pitch for Lincolnwood getting its own ZIP code.

Post office officials acknowledged then that the new annex could help the village in its long battle to get its own ZIP code, and they apparently were right.

The new post office is currently used only by carriers to pick up mail and does not, for the most part, serve as a customer facility.
