Article: Shopping center rumbles neighbors

They are awakened at 5 a.m. by the rumbling of a tractor trailer truck idling at the rear of the shopping center that adjoins their backyards.

Warning beeps shred the quiet morning as the truck is jockeyed into place for unloading.

That is only part of life next to Libertyville's newest shopping center, Butterfield Square.

Blowing trash, bright lights and motors that hum loudly at night have turned home life upside down. Sleep is disturbed and days can be frustrating.

"You can't sit outside and enjoy a cup of tea in the morning," said Kim Carman, who lives behind Butterfield Square, which opened in February.
