Article: Fire station cost expected to increase

Contractors are ready to begin work on the new Oakton Street fire station, but plans still have to clear one more hurdle before ground can be broken.

The Elk Grove Village Capital Improvements Committee decided at its meeting last Wednesday to recommend to the Village Board an increase in the fire station budget by just less than $400,000 to cover costs that were not accounted for at the time the budget originally was drawn up.

"They simply were unanticipated," said Trustee Pat Feichter, who chairs the committee. "We don't like it, but we have to live with it. We want to go ahead with the station."

The Village Board will hear the recommendations at its Committee of the Whole meeting ...
