Article: Resolution prohibits active open space

It may not go far, but nearly 50 residents of Libertyville Township approved a resolution during the annual town meeting Tuesday that would prohibit ballfields and other active recreation on open space land purchased by township residents.

The resolution is advisory, but those favoring it were urged to attend township board meetings until the trustees adopt a policy on the use of open space land.

Some residents were clearly displeased with the conversion of 40 acres of open space into a soccer complex. The township leased the publically owned land to a soccer organization, which developed and maintains the complex and has a 25-year lease.
