Article: Appellate court upholds Oaks school detachment

Already facing three unfavorable rulings, Hawthorn Elementary District 73 officials are mulling over whether to appeal a state appellate court judgment allowing homeowners in the Oaks subdivision to detach from the school district.

Prior to Monday's regularly scheduled meeting, board of education members met for one hour in closed session to discuss the appellate court ruling. Attorney Lynn Himes was absent from the meeting, and the board failed to arrive at a decision.

Board members have until Aug. 20 to file an affadavit of intent notifying the appellate court they intend to appeal. The board must then petition for leave of the Illinois Supreme Court by ...
