Esteban Loaiza opens his season today in Kansas City hoping to build on his 21-win season in 2003.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Hoping to pick up where he left off last season, Esteban Loaiza will pitch today in the same park where his 2003 season ended. It was at Kauffman Stadium in September that Loaiza recorded his 21st victory in the Sox's final game to cap his greatest season. Now he will try to jump-start this season for a Sox team still in shock after the Royals' comeback victory opening day.

To do so, Loaiza will have to pitch with the residual effects of a week-old sore neck that reduced his final spring start Thursday to one inning.
