Article: Eighth grade math expands in Lockport

LOCKPORT -- More than a decade after its inception, the eighth grade algebra program offered at schools feeding into Lockport Township High School is growing. And the entire grade school math curriculum is benefiting in the process, said Marion Hoyda, LTHS assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. "It's been a fairly successful program," Hoyda told LTHS board members at a meeting earlier this week.

In 1991, the high school began offering algebra to eighth graders. By taking algebra a year earlier, students could take higher level math once they entered LTHS.
