On a windless night, Whiting's bats created plenty of strong gusts during a 1-0 loss to Indianapolis Lutheran on Friday in the Class 1A state semifinals at Hamilton Southeastern High School.
The Oilers struck out 15 times, including 10 swinging against Saints star senior pitcher Nikki Naffziger.
"We looked pretty stupid up there a couple times," said Whiting senior Laura Simunic, who had two of the Oilers' three hits. "She's a great pitcher with a lot of control."
