Article: Union's banquet hall on the table

Plans for a banquet hall hotly debated between two local union officials will be presented to the city's Board of Zoning Appeals next week. Kent Pollack, architect for Pollack Architectural Group in Valparaiso, said the 24,000-square-foot banquet hall will be built on the north side of the current headquarters for United Steelworkers Local 6787. The building is located on Indiana 149 in Portage.

"The existing building looks like an office, but the banquet hall will look like a place for parties," Pollack said. "It will be a very high-end facility for weddings and other special events."
