The return of Aramis Ramirez would be a boost to the Cubs lineup.
ST. LOUIS -- If these were the 2003 Cubs in this 2004 situation, Chicago would have no reason to expect a World Series run in the next two months.
The Cubs were 47-47 at the All-Star break last season, losing 13 of their last 19 games, and only the impossible dreamers believed there would come a day when the team was five outs from tasting a long-forbidden fruit.
So if you consider that this year's club, which takes a 46-38 record into the series opener tonight in St. Louis, is doing significantly better, perhaps that can blunt the depression caused by the Cubs having to consider their competition in the National League ...
