Truck traffic. It's one of those markers, along with the flame-tipped smokestacks, that lets you know you are in Northwest Indiana.
You've been there, heading west on Interstate 94, somewhere west of Interstate 65 and east of Cline Avenue. The traffic thickens and the taillights from braking vehicles light up your windshield.
You're lucky if you are moving on the inside lane in your car, but you have a growing sense of claustrophobia. The two outside, through lanes are filled with tractor-trailers as far as the eye can see.
