Holding up a Colt Sporter .223-caliber rifle Monday afternoon behind the counter of The Outdoorsman Sport Shop in Winthrop Harbor, store manager Justin Porlier pointed out a notation on the price tag: "Preban."
"I guess that can come off now," he said, noting Monday's expiration of the 1994 Crime Control Act, which among other things banned certain semiautomatic firearms categorized as assault weapons.
