Article: Seminary might buy Elks Club

AURORA -- The city could consider a proposal in the coming weeks from a Catholic seminary to turn the former Elks Club building downtown into a training ground for priests. Specific information on the proposal has not been presented yet.

The city's Finance Committee was scheduled to talk about the idea for the past two weeks but postponed discussion for the second time Wednesday. Committee Chairman Bob O'Connor, alderman at-large, said the proposal likely will be taken before the full City Council instead, so all 12 aldermen and the mayor can talk about the future of the historic building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
