Children as young as 9 think smoking cigarettes might help them lose weight, a new study suggests.
The study in the October issue of the journal Pediatrics was, according to researchers, the first study of its kind to examine the link between weight control behaviors and smoking in pre-adolescents.
"In both boys and girls we found children who thought about (smoking) were more likely to be concerned about their weight," said one of the study's authors, Dr. Alison Field, an instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
