Watching Comedy Central come of age hasn't always been pretty.

Outrageous and erratic, the all-laughs cable network has veered wildly on its road to success.

Like the ill-mannered but lovable cartoon kids of "South Park" - the ones who significantly have raised the channel's profile and ratings this season - Comedy Central can be inspired lunacy one minute and little more than scatological scribblings the next.
