It was midnight on Feb. 3, 1943, and the S.S. Dorchester, an American troop ship bound for England, was cutting through the frigid North Atlantic into torpedo range of a German U-boat.
The Dorchester was hit and sank in 27 minutes, taking 600 men to their deaths.
