Last-minute candidates in Porter County's elections ensured three Republican officeholders would not go through the election season unopposed. Three Democrats filed Thursday and Friday for county commissioner, county treasurer and county surveyor. They'll oppose Republican incumbents in those offices in November's general election.

New candidates also created an eight-way Republican contest for three County Council nominations in the May 7 primary election. Four Democrats are running for the same three seats in the primary.
