Students engaged in learning about volcanoes in Juana Johnson's class do not simply look at a video tape on volcanoes or listen to a lecture.
Juana Johnson, a sixth-through eighth-grade teacher at Gary's Kennedy King Middle School and a consultant in accelerated learning, asks students what they would do if the land started shaking, encouraging them to find shelter under their desks or mimic the noise of a volcanic eruption.
