The Libertarian Party claims to be the most successful third party in the state, with 70 candidates on various ballots.

Still, electoral success has eluded the party standard bearer, gubernatorial candidate Stephen W. Dillon.

He is making his fifth run for office in the past 10 years. He has never won.

A 46-year-old Indianapolis attorney, Dillon's most successful race was his 1994 run for secretary of state.

He received just more than 2 percent of the vote, enough to permit the party to have its candidates on the ballot in future elections without having to petition the state.
