- By August of 1996, students in Northwest Indiana will be able to learn about African culture from Melanie Bielefeld of Lowell.
She leaves this week for a 10-month stay in Tanzania as a Fulbright Scholar, doing research into agricultural development in the East African nation.
Bielefeld, 22, said she welcomes letters from students eager for more information about a region of the world she calls a "haven of peace," the meaning of the capital city of Dar Es Salaam.
