When Brandi Hunter used the safety skills she learned to save her family from a fire Christmas Eve, she said she only did what she was taught in preschool.
But what the Banneker Achievement Center second-grader didn't know, was that her efforts would later earn her recognition as the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council's "Youth of the Year."
As she sat across the table from her mother, Kennetha Ross, and her younger sister, Bryana, at the Genesis Convention Center, she said she was happy to be among those recognized at the council's Youth Recognition Awards ceremony.
