According to statistics, marriages don't last as long as they used to, but the wedding experience is costing more than ever. Hang on to your top hats, Dad - the May 1993 issue of Forbes magazine states that the average wedding in the U.S. costs $19,000.

Diane Warner's "Big Wedding on a Small Budget," written in 1992, lists average comparison costs across the nation on wedding dresses, cakes, photographers, flowers, receptions and other wedding-related expenses.

While prices have almost certainly gone up somewhat since her book was published, following is a list of approximate costs in Midwestern states.
