PROFILE
For many years, Clarisse (Szakatis) Schafer has enjoyed spending summers on the dunes in a cottage her father had built in 1940.
She loved the summer-house-turned-home even more, when she and her husband, Jay Schafer, moved into it in 1952.
But now, the Schafers have sold their home in the Miller section of Gary to begin anew.
"We're getting up in age and we want to be closer to family," said Clarisse Schafer of their plans to move to Portland, Ore., where their daughter Jill Kosmas and her family reside.
