OUTDOORS - NATURE
On Saturday morning, my 5-year-old son Rocky, 13-year-old daughter Jenna and I put on long pants, long-sleeved shirts and mosquito spray.
We went for a walk outside to see one of the joys of mid-summer - hundreds, maybe thousands of fireflies - living, flying lights, winking on and off.
They flew and flashed all over my lawn, our neighbors' lawn, and in the open shrubbery lining Howe Road on Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore land. We watched and marveled for half an hour until it was the kids' bedtime.
But the fireflies ...
