Communicate with your children. That was the main message for concerned citizens and parents who filled the Crown Point High School cafeteria Wednesday night to get an update on local gang activity.

Sue Schultz of the Crown Point Police said gangs are "going crazy" in the city and "have a lot of money and drugs at their disposal."

Schultz added, "You parents need to recognize this is a problem and stop it from happening."

Schultz announced a new program in the Crown Point schools called EDGE - for Education for Gang Evasion - which targets third- and fourth-graders in an effort to improve their self-esteem.
