Ira Kirschner doesn't get sick. Hasn't gotten sick in years.

The secret? Vitamin C, he says.

Not just, say, your daily 8-ounce glass of orange juice, which has about 100 milligrams of vitamin C. Kirschner, owner of Nature's Organic Warehouse in Woodland Hills, takes 3,000 milligrams a day.

So the UCLA study last year that says vitamin C prolongs life was no surprise to him.

"It's old news to most of us," said Kirschner.

Some local vitamin and health-food stores report that people who heard about the study are clearing their shelves of vitamin C, which usually moves quickly anyway.
